What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with Therapist Kati Morton

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a psychotherapeutic approach that addresses dysfunctional emotions, maladaptive behaviors and cognitive processes and contents through a number of goal-oriented, explicit systematic procedures. The name refers to behavior therapy, cognitive therapy, and to therapy based upon a combination of basic behavioral and cognitive principles and research. Most therapists working with patients dealing with anxiety and depression use a blend of cognitive and behavioral therapy. This technique acknowledges that there may be behaviors that cannot be controlled through rational thought. CBT is “problem focused” (undertaken for specific problems such as anger
) and “action oriented” (therapist tries to assist the client in selecting specific strategies to help address those problems).

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT for short is one of the main therapeutic modalities used by therapists. This is because is is empirically valid and proven to treat anxiety and depression.

I break down 3 types of cognitive errors we all use on a daily basis that can create hurtful emotions.

1. 2:00 Emotional Reasoning

2. 2:42 Jumping To Conclusions

3. 3:00 Catastrophizing

  1. you have just touched on what I need to recover from . I'm waiting to see a therapist with cbt as the recovery programme. I had a bad episode of word salad and didn't know what it was. so now I know. I also disassociate and found out what I was doing and why through your videos. It will help me in therapy to understand what the therapy entails. When someone is asking me a question I often freeze in my mind and attempt to answer with word salad. Free wheeling thoughts will come out. as a word I am hearing jumps out. I stop and change subject. Then the original thread is lost. I am 53 and only now understand what is happening to me. Extreme stress triggers this reaction. I think you may have set me free. I don't know whether to cry or be relieved. probably both.

  2. Nice Video clip! Apologies for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you heard the talk about – Trentvorty Kids Science Theorem (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is an awesome one off guide for becoming an excellent parent minus the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my mate at very last got great results with it.

  3. I wish you were online, are you like a therapist that can do it over the phone or online like sessions? I would pay. ?

  4. I have anxiety, I sometimes are too optimistic and can be delusional on some situations. I am very bad at relationships they always end up leaving me and I feel like I don't deserve a relationship and usually tend to ruin them before they begin. But I am so used to it I am sick and tired of how everything is in my life. How do you get rid of being delusional?

  5. Can I say your Awesome, I am a fan. You always have great explanations to my questions and you always have answers to ALL my questions. Thanks!!!

  6. For the example of the father leaving and the "feelings". Luckily my father never left…but I mentally put myself there when you asked the question. My feeling were fear and I would miss him and worry about him. I didn't at all think it would be due to me. So, I think that some of the "feelings" I have had with different life traumas were mostly not about me…but I'm going to keep listening…..You are amazing…I appreciate these videos more than you know…I have spent more time with you in the last 2 days than I have with my psychiatrist in 6 months…lol

  7. I'm starting my cbt tomorrow to kind of "solve" my depression (after a long year of shaming myself for being depressed and not even talking with anyone about it) and I'm very glad I found out about this video and this channel because now I know what's going to happen and I'm not so worried about it anymore. Thank you, Kati xxx

  8. Ok doc; how do you fix the realization of the fact of meaninglessness and pointlessness in the fundamental fabric of reality and thus ones own meaningless and pointlessness?

  9. Love the way you communicate .. makes it so.much easier to understand .. appreciated :()

  10. Major corporations study the human characterists of emotion and perception. In doing so articulate wisely in accomadating a social. exceptance attribute in studying our human nature. In doing so the emotional aspect of man is compelled and capitalized for commerce sake meanwhile subconciously you have been unknowwingly pulled in on a hook for your well earned revenue.

  11. I fall for doubting myself before I do an action or say something. Not all the time but kind of often.

  12. Thank you but my question is has anyone cured Generalized anxiety disorder ??? I am tired and if there is no cure I am ready to end all these. I am 40 lived with it all my life. I am tired I want be gone. And I will not take any med no way death is much better.

  13. CBT is like the fluid in neurons, you gotta turn the negative into positive. A little action potential humor for yas.

  14. So in short CBT works by helping us notice our thoughts and how some of them are cognitive errors.

  15. Reacting negatively and thinking the worse out of feelings first then reasoning the bad without seeing the real outcome

  16. i like how gentle and kind your voice is, it helped me focus and understand everything much easier than most vids. you didn't go too fast. it was just perfect. thank you keep doing you.
